These days are not easy on any of us and therefore from Lisa Advisors we wanted to provide you with the latest information about the expected impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the Spanish and Portuguese citizenship application processes.
The expected impact of the COVID-19 on the Spanish citizenship applications:

  1. The Sephardi certificates from the Jewish Federation of Spain (FCJE) are being issued as usual.

  2. The CCSE/DELE A2 exams are postponed: the CCSE exam of March and April are postponed to May and June respectively. The DELE A2 exams of April and May are cancelled and new exams dates will be announced. We recommend you follow the updates on the Instituto Cervantes web site.

  3. The appointments with the Spanish notary are postponed until the emergency state and the travel ban in Spain and in the applicants’ home countries are lifted. There are still no official instructions to the notaries, but we are certain that no appointment will be missed.

  4. There will be delays in the applications´ resolutions since the Spanish ministry of justice is working remotely and on urgent cases only and since the citizenship ceremonies at the Spanish consulates are postponed until further notice.

The expected impact of the COVID-19 on the Portuguese citizenship applications:

  1. New Portuguese citizenship applications can be submitted

  2. New documents can be added to existing applications and the Portuguese authorities are extending the documents validity period.

  3. There will be delays in the applications´ resolutions since the Portuguese authorities are only partially working and only on urgent cases.

In summary, the citizenship processes will continue but delays in the processes and their resolutions are expected as a result of the COVID 19 crisis.

We hope you find this information useful.

Take care and keep safe!

Sincerely yours,
Dr. Maya Dori
